Glomerulonephritis

Is caused by inflammation of the tiny filters in your kidneys. Glomeruli filter excess fluid, waste and electrolytes from your bloodstream and exit your body as urine. The kidneys can be severely damaged before symptoms manifest.

Possible Causes: 

  • Often the exact cause of Glomerulonephritis is unknown but, can be diagnosed with a fine needle biopsy.
  • Can by caused by the body’s immune system
  • Bacterial Infections associated with throat and skin infections (Strep)
  • Genetics – family history
  • Lupus- auto immune disease

Symptoms

  • Blood in the urine (dark, rust colored, or brown urine)
  • Foamy urine (excess protein in the urine)
  • Edema- swelling of face, eyes, ankles, feet, legs or abdomen
  • Abdominal pain
  • Coughing up blood
  • Cough with shortness of breath
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
