Hematuria

This is a condition where there is a presence of red blood cells in the urine.

Causes of Hematuria: 

  • Urinary tract infections – either in the bladder (cystitis) or the kidney (pyelonephritis)
  • Kidney infections
  • Bladder and Kidney tumors
  • Auto immune diseases afflicting kidneys
  • Kidney disease
  • Sickle Cell Disease
  • Enlarged Prostate – BPH
  • Kidney injury/trauma

Symptoms:

  • Cloudy and unclear urine
  • Reddish or brownish discoloration of urine
  • Strong urine odor
  • Frequent need to urinate
  • Urine leakage
  • Pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis, and lower back
  • Fever
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Difficulty passing urine
